When was f.Lotta launched?
On 14th June, the anniversary of Pylos shipwreck caused by the border regime.
What about that dot in “f.Lotta”? And how do I pronounce it?
In Italian flotta means “fleet”, lotta means “fight”. It marks the political and uncompromising nature of the initiative. Sometimes words are funny, isn’t it? You pronounce it however you want.
How can a picture support f.Lotta?
For f.Lotta, visibility means spreading radical ideas uncompromisingly in favor of freedom of movement.
Help us spread information about the sea protest! A concrete action: take a picture or a short video with a message (a banner or what you have handy) relaying f.Lotta action, and:
- share it with your network on-line and off-line,
- send it to us by email (f_lotta@inventati.org) or post it on our Telegram group to be reposted on our website!
For example: “For freedom of movement, I support f.Lotta” or “See you in the central Med with f.Lotta, mid September”, etc. you get the gist.

Why do we also refer to the f.Lotta sea action as a sea occupation?
Of course, we cannot build a house on the waves! We use “occupation” with the same meaning given to spending time in a social center, in a squat: places freed from capitalist and profit-making logic, repurposed through solidarity and common fight. Staying in a social center, even without doing nothing special: drinking a coffee, chatting…is already a political act. The positioning of our bodies as a political presence in the central Med area, in direct conflict with the border policies of Fortress Europe, is why we call the sea protest a sea occupation. Squat the sea with us!
Is f.Lotta aiming to build a search and rescue operation?
No! We stage a sea occupation to denounce this system and project a radically different one. f.Lotta is a political action, not an humanitarian operation.
At the same time, f.Lotta is not unprepared for the event of a distress case at sea. f.Lotta members, sailing close to each other, will know how best to react and to reach out for support, abiding to the law of the sea.
